Local Energy Saving Grants
Most local insulation and heating grants operated through the energy suppliers Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) closed in December 2012 to make way for Green Deal and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).
Products such as low energy light bulbs and loft insulation, available from supermarkets, DIY stores and builders merchants, have previously been subsidised by energy suppliers under CERT, but these schemes have also finished.
There may still be grants funded by local councils and targeted at people on low income in specific areas, but these tend to run out of funds quite quickly. Renovation grants and small works grants may be available from your local council and these could include heating and insulation improvements as part of a larger project. Contact your local council to check - find your local council here
Local agencies may be involved in managing grants or know of schemes that are still operating in their local area. Please see 2 agencies below that will provide more information on local energy saving grants:
Act on Energy
Act on Energy is a local energy agency supporting the Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Coventry and Solihull area. They work with local contractors, local authorities and organisations that operate Green Deal and ECO funded schemes in the area and can help you identify if there is an opportunity to access funding. They provide free information and advice and a local referral service to grant providers. Contact Act on Energy through their website through www.actonenergy.org.uk or call 01789 472691.
Energy Saving Trust
Energy Saving Trust is a national organisation and should be aware of all nationally available schemes. They can be contacted through their website www.energysavingtrust.org.uk or call 0300 123 1234.
To reduce the cost of carrying out energy saving improvements the best idea is to shop around for the best deals. Remember, anything that saves energy will save money and the most cost effective things will save much more money than they cost to buy.
